Welcome to Finding Balance Alberta

This website is dedicated to helping seniors prevent a fall before it happens so they can stay active and independent.

Paying Attention to Avoid Risks

The busy season is upon us! Sometimes with all of the activities we are doing, we tend to rush or do too many things at once. When our attention is divided we are less likely to notice some of the things that put us at risk of falling.

Here are some tips to help you keep focused and reduce your chance of falling:

  • Be sure all walk areas are clear of ice and snow and have sand available to put on icy patches.
  • Make sure electronic cords are out of the way.
  • Use ice grippers on your shoes or canes when walking on icy pathways or stairs.
  • Ask for help carrying presents so your hands remain free to use for additional balance.
  • Watch for toys and wrapping paper on the floor.

Don't let a fall get you down! A presentation about improving balance
